  1. As much of a fun and enjoyable activity that hiking is, when going up a mountain it is always best to be careful. When ascending rapidly at heights above 2500-3000m a person may start to experience a condition known as HAPE. HAPE or high altitude pulmonary edema is, as the name of it explains, is pulmonary edema that occurs with high altitude. As I was unable to oen the google document, what was the most likely objective of this piece was, “Relate the exchange of gases during respiration to the chemistry and physics of gases.” This makes since as with HAPE, it will effect the body’s ability to conduct gas exchange due to the abundance of fluid that is currently present in the lungs. Nonproductive cough, dyspnoea on exertion and reduced exercise performance are some early warning signs to this condition’s slow increase in severity. If not treated properly, this condition can actually lead to death due to suffocation. This condition, however, is very easy to treat, simply going down the mountain is the best form of treatment but using things like oxygen and vaso dilators along with the evacuation can also help treat the person.
