  1. Jannah Mehtala created their STEAM project based on course objective 46. “Analyze the effects of disease on function and structure of the respiratory system.” They researched cystic fibrosis, a disorder that causes problems with breathing in the lungs. Their art project is a pencil drawing that shows a set of lungs, one side showing a lung with signs of cystic fibrosis, and the other side showing a normal healthy lung. The different sides give contrast and show how cystic fibrosis affects the lungs. On the left side, the edges of the bronchioles are thickly shaded to represent mucus build-up. Mucus build-up causes airways to be blocked, making it harder to breathe. There are also close-ups of the alveoli, the left side showing alveoli with thick dark shading to show mucus build-up, while the alveoli on the right side have light thin shading on the edges to show healthy working alveoli.
