For my steam project, I used Red bull cans to create the ECG line that would represent atrial fibrillation, a common heart arrhythmia often caused by excessive consumption of energy drinks. Atrial Fibrillation, if serious enough can cause heart attacks, strokes and thromboembolisms, all live-threatening cardiac conditions. The rhythm can be classified as displaying no or undistinguishable p waves and polymorphic QRS complexes, meaning they do not occur in an organized pattern or timing. This is because the pacemaker is firing in a rapid and chaotic manner, sending disorganized electrical signals to the ventricles. The patient will also most likely be tachycardic. The presences of atrial fibrillation is increasing in younger generations, particularly college students who rely on Red Bull and other energy drinks that contain taurine specifically.
For Taiga’s steam project she made a ECG line using red bull cans. She is showing a common heart arrhythmia, atrial fibrillation, which is caused by having too many energy drinks. Having too many of these drinks can lead to many bad health problems including strokes, heart attacks, and thromboembolisms. Her project is showing different p waves and polymorphic QRS complexes that happen when someone has a red bull.
