Lobes of the Brain
In Marla’s brain model she describes the four lobes in our brain. There is the frontal, occipital, parietal, and temporal lobe. The brain is a “powerhouse” and controls how our body functions. Sometimes there our brain experience injuries that can cause damage to them and sometimes they can be caused by a disease. The injuries to the brain can cause short-term or permanent damage to someone’s body.
The brain has millions of nerves that are protected by myelin sheath. The myelin sheath is an insulated layer that forms around the nerves is made up of protein and fatty substances. It sends electric impulses that are transmitted along the nerve cells.
Each lobe in our brains has a specific function. The frontal lobe is responsible for our motor skills, reasoning, cognition level, and language. The occipital lobe is responsible for interpreting and interpreting information. The parietal lobe processes sensory information that allow our bodies to feel pain, touch, pinching, etc. Lastly, the temporal lobe interprets language and noise. Another important part in Marla’s project was the Wernicke’s area. This part allows us to form words/ speech. Then there is the Broca’s area. This is located in the occipital lobe and it allows us to understand speech and language and controls facial neurons.
Brain lesions can be formed due to strokes, trauma, vascular injuries, inflammation, etc. Brain lesions can be treated but the damage caused to them require distinct treatment. Some can be treated on time but some can lead to multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer’s, and lupus
