In Evans’s steam project, he talks about what happens to the alveoli tissue when someone has pneumonia. The respiratory’s system has different functions when someone has pneumonia and does not. When a body has pneumonia the body has to provide more energy to excrete the fluid from the infection to have a good level of gas exchange to function the body properly. The symptoms of Pneumonia are coughing, having a fever, and slow oxygen levels. The infection causes the gas exchange to halt and slow down in the alveoli tissue because the air sacs are filling up with fluid causing the oxygen levels to slow down and causing hypoxia to start developing. When someone has pneumonia the only treatment at first is antibiotics which cause the infection to die down but from there, the person has to cough up all the fluid, this does cause this infection to be contagious. If the pneumonia is so severe that the lungs are starting to die, surgery is required to remove the dead lobes of the lungs. The respiratory and cardiovascular systems are connected because the alveoli tissue heightens the oxygen levels and lessens the carbon dioxide in the cardiovascular system. The alveoli tissue brings oxygen to the cardiovascular system which allows gas exchange to occur. If the gas exchange does not occur our bodies would not function properly. Pneumonia is detected through a chest X-ray showing cloudy images within the lungs.
