My art project is about one of the most common diseases that affect one of the major blood vessels or coronary artery of the heart knowing as a coronary artery disease or also called CAD – Atherosclerotic heart disease, and my art piece represent the difference stages of the disease affecting the arteries before and after treatment. To make these five pieces of 3-D printer figures, I use PLA filament and took six hours to printed them, after the process of printer were done, I started painting the model with acrylic paint to giving them more details. The objectives I’m covered are the symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment for this disease, describing the cause and affects in the cardiovascular system. The human body is a complex system formed by multiple organs working together to maintain a homeostasis. When this balance is affected by any illness or disease, and organ dysfunction could cause permanent and long-term damages. In the most several cases even the death of the individual.
The Coronary arteries are the arteries that supply blood to the heart. There are two coronary arteries the left coronary artery and the right coronary artery. A healthy artery is depicted in as model #1. When the blood flow in the artery is reduced the heart is unable to receive an adequate blood. the restriction of blood is caused by a buildup of fats (cholesterol plaque or white blood cells depicted in Model #2. When the heart dose not receive the about of blood that it needs those parts of the heart becomes Ischemic. That is when the tissue of the heart is not getting enough oxygen (model of the heart). This condition can lead to cell death. (Libretexts. 2024, January 6).
The CAD most of the cases can be diagnostise by a health care provider, follow will asking medical history, symptoms, but also will use multiple test to help the diagnosis the disease and monitor the CAD, few of these test are Preforming an ECG or EKG, Echocardiogram, Exercise stress test, nuclear stress test, heart CT scan, and finally cardiac catheterization and angiogram, this last one need to be preform by a cardiologist (Coronary Artery Disease | Cdc.gov. (2021, July 19). Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). During the catheterization or Angioplasty and stent placement a long flexible wire with a camara on the end will be guided thought a vein that is ether in the groin or wrist. When the Cardiologist finds a blockage, a balloon inflates to open the artery (demonstrated on model # 3) (Diagnosis and treatment – Mayo Clinic. (2022, May 25).
Another important process of the procedure (demonstrate in model # 4) shows the placement of a stent a wire mesh tube. This stent helps keep the artery open. Often some the stents contain medications that also assists to keep the artery open and maintain blood flow to the heart. (Diagnosis and treatment – Mayo Clinic. (2022, May 25).

This project is amazingly well done! Rosa’s project demonstrated the coronary artery of the heart, plagued with coronary artery disease. The model is very in-depth and shows four different stages of coronary artery disease including before and after treatment. The write up explained the experiment well and amplified the topics that the art piece, clearly, already covered.
Rosa said that she was aiming to cover the symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment for this disease and describe the cause and effects in the cardiovascular system. The art piece clearly showed all of the treatments and the buildup of plaque that causes the disease in the first place. The heart is well done and accurate and the arteries show a healthy open artery, an artery filled with plaque, catheterization or angioplasty and placement of a stent and a wire mesh tube.
All of the artery models combined show the subtle plaque build up and how it can prevent blood flow and cause ischemia, as well as what procedures can be done to reverse the artery damage and restore blood flow through the main artery. The third model shows stent placement: a long flexible wire with a camera on the end. Stents keep the artery open and prevent further ischemia and cell death.
Overall, the model is very easy to understand and interpret, even with little background knowledge and the write up also provided the necessary information to understand models 3 and 4.
