  1. Audrey Brown covered three different gastric surgeries. They are weight loss surgeries because they affect the stomach differently and the patient will lose weight afterward. The first one, Adjustable Gastric Banding, is done laparoscopically. A band is secured at the top of the stomach so the patient will be full after eating. The second surgery is a Sleeve Gastrectomy. This is where the surgeons will remove 80% of the stomach. The smaller stomach restricts the amount of food that the patient can eat. The last surgery describes Gastric Bypass. This is where the surgeons create a pouch out of the upper stomach and connect it directly to the small intestine. These are bariatric surgeries and will affect how food is passed through the body.
