  1. Jacqui Wendler did her project on spinal fusion. She defined spinal fusion as “the permanent connection of one or more vertebrae”. She created a poster with different views of the spine and detailed drawings of the types of vertebrae. On her poster there is a drawing of scoliosis. It shows how the curving of the spine can effect the body as a whole. It causes the hips to offset and the shoulders are no longer in line. There is also a drawing of a herniated disc. This happens when the spinal nerve is compressed. This can cause lots of pain in the spine and surrounding area. In one of the drawings of the spine there is a fusion cave bone graft. Those are used for stabilization of a damaged portion of the spine. I learned that spinal fusion can be used to support the spine after injury or as pain management.
