I made a visual representation of the Nervous system showing the Central Nervous system and Peripheral Nervous System. My objective is to compare and contrast the two parts of the nervous system while explaining each systems role in the function of the body.
From functions as basic as breathing to as complicated as memorizing your class’s latest lecture, the nervous system is responsible for regulating our vital functions and allowing us to interact with the world around us. The nervous system consists of two major parts; the central nervous system (CNS) which consists of the brain and spinal cord, and the peripheral nervous system (PNS) which comprises all our sensory and motor neurons. The brain takes information gathered by sensory receptors and interprets them into information we use to assess our surroundings. Considering how important our nervous system is when it comes to day-to-day activities, conditions that specifically affect this system are particularly debilitating One such Illness is knowns as an autonomic failure or multiple systems atrophy. This disease leads to slow movement, rigidity, and tremor. To illustrate the complexity of the nervous system, Erin chose to do her project using embroidery as a medium. The intricate threadwork does a great job to mirror the thread-like nerve fibers that weave through our bodies, as well as demonstrating the level of precision that the nervous system is able to accomplish.
