Laura’s steam project dived into exploring the Hygiene Hypothesis and how exposure in early childhood increases our resistance to diseases. Laura broke down the immune system and that the importance of exposure to diverse microbiomes so that our immune system builds a response to those substances. She ventured into the COVID pandemic and how this isolation to prevent the spread of COVID may have a lasting effect in not building the adequate immunity to these substances. Her drawing depicted a human being outside amongst these immune building microbes happy and having strong muscles vs a human inside sad and surrounded by low exposure suppressants.
