For our project,   we did it on polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). PCOS is a hormonal disorder that causes the ovaries to enlarge and develop cysts. For our model, we used air dry clay to create a uterus. On the left side is a healthy uterus with an ovary that isn’t enlarged or has any cysts. On the right side shows PCOS; the ovary is enlarged a little bit, and there are small bumps on the surface of it representing the cysts.

  1. Allison worked with Reese to show what PCOS is and what it looks like-a hormonal issue resulting in cysts. She used clay to make a model of the female reproductive system to show that one ovary is healthy, and the other is not, having cysts on it. She talks about how cysts may form as an imbalance of androgens, if there’s a family history of them, being overweight, or other things relating to insulin resistance. Also, she states that PCOS is the number one reason for infertility in the country, and lists other symptoms like irregular periods, excess hair growth, acne, and weight gain. Risks of PCOS include preeclampsia, miscarriage, and endometrial cancer. Overall, I think she did a great job explaining PCOS and showing it through her model.
