Zach’s STEAM project is covering the condition known as Myasthenia Gravis. Myasthenia Gravis is an autoimmune disorder where a person’s body releases an inhibitor molecule that ends up binding to the ACh(acetylcholine) receptor on muscle cells(sarcolemmas). ACh is a neurotransmitter involved in muscle contraction. The symptoms of this condition are muscle weakness and shorter amounts of time muscles can operate without fatigue. Zach’s project demonstrates the molecular process of the autoimmune molecule responsible for inhibiting the reception of ACh.
