For my steam project I decided to make a YouTube Video on trichinella spiralis and its affect on the muscles. In this video I talked about how trichinella spiralis is a parasitic roundworm that is found in animals like pigs, bears, rats, and many other carnivorous/omnivorous animals. Many of these animals are found in Alaska! And the main way these parasitic roundworms get inside of our own human bodies is from us consuming raw or undercooked meats (mainly from pork but it was also found commonly in bear meat as well!) When larvae is consumed from raw meat, these larvae go into our intestines, grow into adults, and if there is a male and female, they can mate. When these parasites mate, they can produce up to 1500 larvae which then can enter into our bloodstream and go to other places in our bodies (mainly muscle tissue). That includes our biceps, triceps, quads, and even our heart. Trichinella spiralis is found in most of the world such as Asia, Europe, and the Americas. The main meat that this parasite is found in is pork, but one interesting fact is that it is found in bears in the Americas! If you were to consume these larvae into your body, they would cause many things to happen in your muscle tissue. Your immune system will attack when it detects the larvae which then cause the inflammation and swelling of the muscles. Some of the common symptoms are muscle pain, swelling, weakness, stiffens, loss of muscle elasticity. For this project I wrote myself an outline to follow through with for my video so that I could keep it organized nicely and so that I don’t miss any of the topics I wanted to talk about. It also holds all of the sources that I used! Here it is:
