I used acrylic paint on poster board to depict a healthy kidney compared to a kidney affected by polycystic kidney disease. Polycystic kidney disease is a genetic disorder passed from parent to child that causes large fluid-filled cysts to grow in and on the tissue of the kidney. These cysts cause pain, as well as changing the anatomy and size of the kidney, limiting how well the kidney can function and do what it is designed to do. Polycystic kidney disease can be treated, but if left unaddressed for long enough, the damage done to the kidneys could be irreversible, leading to kidney failure and end stage kidney disease.
