I choose to do my project on the function and the formation of the placenta. It was interesting to learn how the placenta is formed and functions. I find it fascinating that the body forms this extra organ at conception and discards it after it completes its purpose.
She used this setup to demonstrate how a placenta is responsible for assisting in fetal development, as the balloon is designed to resemble a placenta. Attached to the fetus via the umbilical cord, the placenta is responsible for respiratory functions, excretion of waste, providing the fetus with nutrients and serving to build up its immune system, as well as using hormones to regulate many factors of development.
