This is my post about octet rule, it describes ways in which we can know which elements combine best with one another to form stable molecules based on Lewis Dot structures and valence electrons. The original song is “I Will Follow You Into The Dark” by Death Cab for Cutie. I made a few mistakes while playing this but I am not going to put this on my actual Youtube where my other music videos are.

Octet Rule

Octet Rule

Learned it at school

The element’s outermost shell

Eight electrons to stabilize well

Octet Rule

You need eight, but, don’t be fooled

Some atoms lose one electron charge

Alkali metals suddenly feel large

When we sum to eight, elements feel great,

Electrons shared, covalent bonds show they care

Those bonds each count as two

Electrons, yes they do

Octet Rule

My hair feels like wool

Valence sum is great

Beryllium oxide sums to eight

(Periodic table) columns decide

Family valence, like the first is 1, last column, 8

A reactive and nonreactive state

When we sum to eight, elements feel great,

Electrons shared, covalent bonds show they care

Those bonds each count as two

Electrons, yes they do

Electrons, yes, they do
