  1. Tessa’s project is about epilepsy. Epilepsy is a disorder in the central nervous system. Epilepsy can be diagnosed after two seizures and going through some tests. Epilepsy can be caused by many different things. Sometimes it occurs with no apparent cause or it can be passed down genetically. It can also be caused by head trauma, brain tumors, meningitis, strokes, or multiples sclerosis This is a lifelong condition that can be treated but cannot be cured. There are lots of medications used to treat epilepsy, as well as other options including vagus nerve stimulator, deep brain stimulation, and surgery.
Epilepsy can cause either focal or generalized seizures. There are many different types of seizures in both categories. The type of seizure is determined by where in the brain it begins and spreads. Generalized seizures affect the entire brain and body, while focal seizures affect one specific part of the brain and the part of the body that is controlled by that area of the brain. If someone is having a seizure do not try to stop the movement of the person having the seizure. You should time the seizure, make sure their head is protected, and turn them onto their side.
I really enjoyed learning more about epilepsy because my cousin had seizures for a few years. They still are not entirely sure what triggered him to begin having seizures, but it is now under control with the help of medication.
